[Blog] Innodb DB gap lock and timeout [Original] 2011-2-11 4:05pm

We hit a timeout issue on inserts/updates on an innodb table. We can only resume INSERTS/UPDATES by restarting apache or MySQL.  The inserts/updates were logged in the slow query log and time out on the value of "innodb_lock_wait_timeout=120".

Check "show innodb status\G", if you find high values (>) on "Pending reads, pending writes, flush list..", which means InnoDb is I/O bound. Using "vmstat 5 5" or "iostat -dx 5" to check I/O details.

RENAME TABLE db1.tbl_name TO db2.tbl_name;

it's better to use innodb-file-per-table. Then you will never need to resize innodb datafile size.
